Hi Im Ray Jones, Professional freehand tattoo artist, portrait and mural painter.
I was born in the mother town of Burslem Stoke-on-Trent in 1946, the eldest grandson of the Fraser family.
My father was a portrait artist an I suppose this talent of art was handed down to me from my fathers side, at the age of five I was always sketching, during my schooling I had decided to make my career as an artist.
After leaving school I took my first commision, a large backdrop mural consisting of 1960's pop star portraits, which I believe still hides behind paneling in a very famous venue!
At Sixteen I attended longton school of art where I masterted my trade. At eighteen I joined the 2nd Battalion of the Grenadier Guard for six years and took a position of traditional signwriter in 1971 I returned to civilian life, its at this time I settled into self employment as a full time artis, sign writer and designing a wide variety of tattoo de3signs for local tattoo artists, the like of Jim Mager (The Saint) & Gentle John to mention just a few.
I worked for various tattoo studios in the 80's and partnered Gentle John at a studio called JJ's in Longton next to the "Old Hut" (A stokey term!) this is where I mastered free hand portrait and fantasy tattooing.
Moving between trades of paint and ink, I took up full time and Ive run a successful Studio in Stone, staffordshire for the past 12 Years, Where I am renowned for free hand personal design, specialising in black and grey work.
